Bill Murray is great in all his films but Lost in Translation, Showed another side in Murray that had given him a place of honor in Hollywood world not to mention the ingenious combination of Murray and the sweetest girl in Hollywood - Scarlett Johansson make Lost in Translation a must see to all who didn't see yet!

I tend not to like movies about love rejected. And the Murray character certainly rejects her.

Murray's line at breakfast is really saying, "Look, I do not have those kind of intentions for you."

The good part is that there are no histrionics.

He is a classic older man who sees her as a being too young to be an acceptable sexual partner.

In the end, she understands and accepts the situation.

Both characters were married to other people. Choosing friendship over an affair was appropriate and in the long run, satisfying. Murray's character had not only a wife but children. He could return to his marriage after a single one-night stand. A sexual affair with emotional involvement would have made that return nearly impossible. The role of friendship between people in those circumstances is undervalued in society and often "Lost in Translation" when others assume an affair is the best or only likely outcome.
