Secession

Via the always wonderful Carnival of the Vanities comes this post on Killington seceding from Vermont (scroll down to Jan 10). I'm going to start blogging this story folks. If it happens, it could provide precedence and a framework for the breakup of California.

If California does break up, it should be an east and west break, not north and south though, contrary to what everyone thinks.

Ahhh...or as the Valley used to call it, "Cityhood"...those were the days when we could dream of self-governance!

Screw the Valley Secessionists.

Oh and if you want to live in "Atzlan" feel free to push for a three way, east/west split. The central and northern portions of the state are a good means of staving that off.

The Vermont thing is so stupid. Killington is a good 40 miles away from New Hampshire. It's probably actually closer to New York. Unless you wanted a non-contiguous state, it wouldn't happen.

And anyway, most of the people generating that revenue are from out-of-state anyway. There's a major ski resort there that probably generates almost all the money.

Breakups usually happen when there are economic woes. The clearest recent example was tthe breakup of the Soviet Union when the economy collapsed.

So California will break up after the economic collapse not before.

The talk of breakups are probably a sign that the economic downturn is coming.
