We have chickens!!!!! After 6 months and 5 failed hatches, I got an emergency call in the middle of the hearing I was conducting. The chickens were hatching, no one knew what to do and I was in Seattle. I actually tried to change my flight and get home that night but I couldn't get to the airport in time for the last flight. So I spent 3 hours on the cel phone talking them through newborn handling and building a brooder. A pretty slick move considering I'd never even seen a newborn chick. But I had been studying for 6 months.
We have 3 beautiful healthy chicks living in the downstairs shower. We also have one very sick chick who seems to be bound and determined to live despite the fact that she can't even stand or walk.
In light of this development, I no longer can reject the name "mother hen".
