The Gender Genie is making the rounds. Andrew Sullivan and BoiFromTroy are more manly than the Instapundit. My own theory? Instapundit is spending waaaay too much time playing Barbies with his young daughter. Now my girls have grown up to all of 12. Let's see how the gender genie does. Longer posts work better so I input my Terri Schindler-Schiavo post from Dean's World:
Female Score: 651
Male Score: 1332
Well, I was kind of grumpy that day. So I tried my description of our fire experience. Fear. Concern for the children. Mention of cats. I even mentioned suburbs and Reader's Digest. Really girlie.
Female Score: 236
Male Score: 1090
Wow. That's even more male/female that future BFLer Window Manager.
You guys have to toughen up to keep up with the mother hen.

See? Told ya.
Posted by: Xrlq at October 31, 2003 08:46 AM (Permalink)I put in my longest piece I'd done recently (here) and got this result:
Female Score: 1479
Male Score: 3147
Well, this post got a strongly male score. So, I'm at least as manly as Andrew and Boi.
Female Score: 572
Male Score: 1879
Last time the genie made the rounds, the genie was wrong more often than it was right. At the time, it was sure I was a woman, except for the time I fed it the line "I'm a man, you idiot," and then it couldn't tell. This time around, it recognizes that I am a man, just not as manly a man as Justene.
Posted by: Xrlq at October 31, 2003 02:17 PM (Permalink)Well, it does say the post is supposed to be long for it to work. Still. . . are there any examples of its mistaking men for women? It sounds like it's mostly doing the opposite.
Posted by: Patterico at October 31, 2003 02:22 PM (Permalink)Didn't get the link to your post, Kevin. Did it exceed 500 words?
Posted by: Patterico at October 31, 2003 02:23 PM (Permalink)This is starting to sound like a skit from Saturday Night Live.
Que es muy macho? Lloyd Bridges or Justene Ademec? Kirk Douglas or Andrew Sullivan? The Rock or the Boi?
Posted by: Peter Sean Bradley at October 31, 2003 02:25 PM (Permalink)And to test that theory further (it all skews male), I tried this post from e-Claire. It exceeds 500 words and comes out like this:
Female Score: 481
Male Score: 1284
I like the Genie's response when I told it that it was wrong:
"That is one butch chick."
I wonder what it says if you tell it that it mistook a man for a woman?
Posted by: Patterico at October 31, 2003 02:28 PM (Permalink)I tried it again with this long-ish post and am catching up with Justene in butchness:
Female Score: 347
Male Score: 1032
They only claim to be 80% right...so maybe CalBlog is an "outlyer"...
Posted by: boifromtroy at October 31, 2003 02:40 PM (Permalink)This might confirm Sullivan's theory, however. I tested CalBlog Husband's post on Dennis Miller for Senate with the following result:
Female Score: 664
Male Score: 468
Opposites DO attract!
Posted by: boifromtroy at October 31, 2003 02:43 PM (Permalink)This Gender Genie's a bunch of bunk; I got a sissified score, and I'm as he-manly as any dude here.
Female Score: 487
Male Score: 683
Oh, ok. I've got the farce figured out.
I just entered "as good as ever" and got a perfect score ...
Female Score: 0
Male Score: 126
That's a pretty interesting view on free wake up call service
