Schwazenegger Teambuilding

Arnold has added Mike Murphy, John McCain's campaign manager, to his team. Didn't McCain lose?

Yeah, but he beat the spread.

Sssshhhhh! Don't use the "L" word anywhere within 5,000 miles of the Senator. He's still touchy about it.

Bush defeated McCain, but only because many of the independant voters who favored McCain were excluded from most state Primaries, so it's hardly a fair comparison. Besides, Bush never debated McCain on the merits -- he didn't claim his tax policies were better, only that his opponents weren't Reaganesque.

That's another way of saying that McCain's support -- for the Republican nomination, mind you -- came from outside the Republican Party.

Had McCain really been serious about getting elected President, he would have started his campaign when all the others did, and not waited until it was already obvious George W. Bush was going to be the nominee.

That said, Sean is right -- McCain 2000 doesn't really translate to this recall replacement election.

It's McClintock's campaign that is making Schwarzenegger beef up his moderate credentials.

McClintock already has a corner on the conservative base. Schwarzenegger can't hope to outflank McClintock.

Just like Willie Sutton's preference for robbing banks ('cause that's where the money is), if Schawrzenegger goes to the left, it's only because the polling indicates that is where there are the most votes to win.

IT'S NOT ABOUT IDEOLOGY, IT'S ABOUT WINNING.
