My father thinks that not a single blogger writes as well as Maureen Dowd.
Posted by Justene Adamec at June 25, 2003 09:33 AM | TrackBackI find her writing style to be shrill and overly melodramatic.
Posted by: Justene at June 25, 2003 02:50 PM (Permalink)Well I would call it playful. Also she is unmoved by the slings and arrows of outrageous bloggers.
That is, if she knows they even exist.
While the bloggers reaction to her is well...
Posted by: Otto at June 25, 2003 07:18 PM (Permalink)Dowd's style is more shrill than anything else. Yesterday's column was even worse than that; the "ungrateful Negro" theme was downright racist. Add to that her recent column which deliberately misquoted President Bush as saying that al-Qaeda isn't a threat anymore, and the fact that Jayson Blair lasted at the same paper for as long as he did, and you really have to wonder how low a writer has to go before the Newspaper With A Record with do the honorable thing and fire him.
Posted by: Xrlq at June 26, 2003 11:37 AM (Permalink)Another blogger, who will never get a real reporting/writing job, regurgitates a few twisted truths that other bloggers have written.
Dowd and the NYTimes are not listening. They really are above it.
Posted by: Otto at June 27, 2003 06:20 AM (Permalink)And therein lies the problem. By being above it all, she reinforces her elitism. Once upon a time, we could count on newspapers to bring the voice of the common man into the public debate. You may not like blogger writing style, but it does bring a new voice into the discourse.
